⚡ Quick Fix Guide

A BSOD usually points to a driver, memory, or hardware problem. Work through these in order:

  1. Note the stop code on the blue screen (e.g. MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, DRIVER_IRQL)
  2. Open Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System and look for critical errors near the crash time
  3. Run in admin Command Prompt: sfc /scannow
  4. Then run: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  5. Update or roll back any recently installed drivers — especially GPU and chipset
  6. Test RAM: press Win + R, type mdsched, schedule overnight scan
💡 Search your exact stop code on BleepingComputer.com for targeted fixes.
  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + EscStartup tab → disable programs you don't need at boot
  2. Check disk space — Windows needs at least 15% free on C:
  3. Run a full Malwarebytes scan to rule out background malware
  4. Check drive health with CrystalDiskInfo
  5. Check temps with HWMonitor — thermal throttling slows CPUs significantly
  6. Search "Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows" → Best Performance
💡 Replacing an HDD with an SSD is the single biggest speed improvement on an older PC.
  1. Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → run Windows Update
  2. In admin Command Prompt: net stop wuauserv, delete contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\, then net start wuauserv
  3. Reset bits service: net stop bits then net start bits
  4. Make sure you have at least 20 GB free on C: for feature updates
💡 Note any error code (e.g. 0x80070002) and search it on support.microsoft.com.
  1. Restart your router and modem — unplug for 30 seconds
  2. In admin Command Prompt run each then restart:
    netsh winsock reset
    netsh int ip reset
    ipconfig /flushdns
  3. Update or reinstall your network adapter driver in Device Manager
  4. Change DNS to 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)
  5. For WiFi: forget the network in Settings, then reconnect from scratch
  1. Disconnect from the internet immediately
  2. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking (hold Shift while clicking Restart)
  3. Download and run Malwarebytes Free — full scan
  4. Run Microsoft Safety Scanner as a second opinion
  5. Change passwords for important accounts from a different, clean device
  6. If infection persists after two clean scans, consider a Windows reset
💡 Ransomware? Check nomoreransom.org — free decryptors may exist. Never pay first.
  1. Force-restart 3 times to trigger Windows Recovery (WinRE)
  2. Try Startup Repair first (Troubleshoot → Advanced → Startup Repair)
  3. Try System Restore to a point before the problem
  4. In WinRE Command Prompt run:
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
  5. Last resort: Reset this PC → Keep my files
💡 Suspect a bad drive? Boot from Hiren's BootCD PE to run diagnostics.
  1. Power cycle the printer — off, unplug 30 seconds, plug back in
  2. Restart Print Spooler in admin Command Prompt:
    net stop spooler
    Delete files in C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS\
    net start spooler
  3. Remove and re-add the printer in Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers
  4. Uninstall and reinstall driver from the manufacturer's website
